The International Federation of Women in the Legal Career makes public its rejection of the decision of the Supreme Court of the United States of America, which revoked the precedents of the Roe and Casey case, passing the responsibility for legislating on the matter to the States.
This attitude, taken by a Court of Justice composed of a majority of conservative ministers, violates women’s rights for equality and freedom, since the decision about their own bodies must be exclusive to women.
Freedom of choice and the premise that we are the owners of our bodies and holders of our wills are non-negotiable rights. By revoking the norm that guaranteed, for about 50 years, women’s freedom of choice, the Supreme Court banned a right of personal decision to give voice to conservative and ideological whims, disrespecting women’s independence.
Thus, the backward attitude of the US Supreme Court is clearly the result of the desire to control women. It is the result of a policy of violence and hatred nurtured by extreme conservatism against women.
However, the fight for women’s human rights continues and we will fight tirelessly for the passage of a federal law by Congress that restores this right that was revoked to the American people.
