The International Federation of Women in the Legal Career – FIFCJ, goes public to express its solidarity with Iranian women, in the face of the death of young Masha Amini, 22 years old, on September 16th, who was arrested because of her clothing, by the morality police in the Kurdistan region, the unit responsible for enforcing the strict dress code in the Islamic republic.
The death of Masha Amini, still not clarified by the Iranian authorities, has generated fair protests from women and men who have come together in many cities of the country, and according to the international press, it has already caused at least eight deaths of people in the repression of the protests, in addition to of almost completely blocking the mobile internet and limited applications such as Whatsapp and Instagram in the country.
This fact is very shocking and repugnant for this Federation composed of women jurists representing dozens of countries that have recognized the human rights of women and girls, notably in terms of freedom, dignity and autonomy of their bodies, their choices and rights to opportunities.
The FIFCJ joins the recent manifestation of the United Nations, through the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, that the death in custody of Mahsa Amini, the allegations of torture and the violent reaction of the security forces to the demonstrations, must be subject to an impartial and independent investigation.
The time has come for the world to unite against this cruel and murderous theocratic state imposed in Iran since the 1979 revolution, which restricts freedom and takes the lives of women, vilifying their rights, and which is against the grain of world society, and must come to an end, for the sake of women and children and the future of new Iranian generations.
